I was scheduled to have my ovaries taken out today. (The thought being that by removing the highest producer of estrogen in my body we could starve the cancer and slow it’s progression.) But…. no surgery today. I couldn’t just be boring & straightforward. My pre-op tests yesterday showed elevated clotting times. They retested this morning & still an issue with not clotting fast enough. They took more blood before sending me home & referred me to a hematologist who I will see on Dec. 29th to identify the cause of my elevated PTT levels so they can manage it during surgery. Surgery will likely be rescheduled for early in the new year. I do like to keep my medical teams on their toes!
It’s actually kind of a miracle they found this. My surgeon does not typically order this test for anyone without a history of clotting issues. But the anesthesiologist had requested it. I’m glad they caught it and we can prepare properly to deal with any issue that may arise in surgery. Far better than being the only person in history to bleed out during laparoscopic surgery. (Bit of an exaggeration.)
The great news is that I’ll get to enjoy Christmas without that pesky surgical recovery period. God has never once failed to reveal Himself through each step in this process and continues to prove faithful.
