A recent PET scan revealed and MRI confirmed 2 new lesions that are consistent with metastatic breast cancer. The great news is that, unlike the 3 previous spots, I have no pain associated with these new ones. My radiation oncologist is confident that he will be able to treat these new areas with the same stereotactic radiosurgery that was used on the other spots. Additionally, in an effort to reduce the amount of estrogen in my body, I will have an oopherectomy later this fall. My reconstructive surgery will be postponed to sometime after the new year.
We’re learning to go with the flow & continuing to trust that God will provide for our every need as He has been faithful to do thus far. I’m very glad to report that I feel pretty fantastic. The change in plans will also enable me to actually participate in MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Boot Walk to End Cancer on November 12th. I’ve joined a team of fellow “mets” patients & our supporters. We are raising money towards the creation of an Advanced Breast Cancer center at MD Anderson. I am so excited about this initiative and very hopeful about the vision for the center.
